Rogers LUXOR NYC Bd of Ed

Here's an interesting Rogers Luxor in a rare 6.5x14 size. This is one of those drums purchased for the NYC school system. The shell is stamped as well. The amazing thing about this drum is it was somehow unplayed. True new old stock that must have been stuck in a closet.

The rarest of the rare! I owned a Ludwig NYC school drum and those buggers are rare, but yours? Takes the Blue Ribbon for rarity.

Hey John..... What was your NYC bd of ed? Was it the 6.5 acrolite version (think remember that from a previous post)? I think those are rarer than the Luxor, or perhaps on equal footing. Someone ordering drums for the school system sure liked those deep dish snares. I have seen these 6.5 mahogany Luxors surface on occasion. A friend rescued a 6.5 Luxor with similar stamp.

Yes, three ply shell with mahogany outer veneer.

Musical..... Wish I had a time machine. I would go back and pick up a 6.5 x14 green sparkle Powertone and a Mardi Gras 6.5x14 Powertone with beavertail lugs!

PT - I attached a photo of my drum. If only I knew in 97' what I know now, that one would still be in my possession. And I'm pretty sure that yours is rarer. NYC acro's are fetching a G or better these days when they turn up on fleabay. Yours would better that price by a country mile. Have you ever seen another like yours?

Every time I see one of your snare drums, or anything from Mike Curotto, I'm always left scraping my jaw off the floor. You have some eye my friend. You buy as well as anything (from the pro collectors) that I've ever seen. Kudos.

I thought it was the Acro. I love those drums. Actually a good friend nabbed one of those Bd of Ed Luxors off of eBay and restored it. I believe it is with a friend of his.

We have all let nice pieces go not knowing how hard they might be to find again. You never know.... (I sold the WMP dyna that I had up a while back, only to realize what I did later. I ended up trading to get it back. )

It really warms my heart (and wallet!) to see NOS pieces like this, especially the NYC BOE stuff that potentially would have been trashed a long time ago, and of course since I own a BOE drum and was educated in the NYC public school system.

I am amazed to see NOS drums survive the NYC school system. Don't know how this one survived - essentially unused.

I didn't go to school in NYC, but I did go to school about a mile up the road from where the drum was made (Covington) and was probably in about the 3rd grade at the time.

We owe a debt of gratitude to whoever purchased these 6.5" drums for the school system.
