A recent acquisition. 1935 Ludwig & Ludwig 5x14 snare. Shell is a solid 1 ply, all parts are original except the heads and snares. Time piece throw off. 8 Imperial lugs. Brass oval badge.

Probably the best drum I've ever played. I guess it must have been designed as an orchestral snare. The buzz rolls on this are exceptional. And it is loud! What a crack! What is the opposite of dry sounding? I guess the drum sounds moist!

NOB hardware is really pretty. Only problem is the rim destroys my sticks. I'm very pleased with it. T-rods thread directly into the lug covers as opposed to having inserts and springs. I haven't enjoyed a purchase this much in a while.

Does anyone know anything about this drum?

Did you get the drum as it is? I ask because it has an earlier than '35 badge. It looks to me like it was a tube lug drum and then the Imperial lugs were added later. The '35-'38 badge had a white background.

This is how I bought it. The seller indicated that it was all original. The ad said it was made in 1935 because the stamp on the inside of the shell was 3510 and that indicated an October 1935 build date.

If you have the drum take the lug off. You will know right away.

If it is dated as a '35, it probably had an earlier badge installed as leftover stock...

The term moist is interesting when describing the sound:D ...I think of Ringo as having a "wet" sound,probably due to looser tension especially the bottom and a moderate amount of torque on the throw.....Oh yeah,the Eagles have that same snare sound,i love itExcited

Yes, the Imperial lug was introduced in 1935. It did not have the inserts until 1937. The tension rods threaded directly into the lug. Most, but not all of these lugs stripped, hence the needed insert...

So would say that it is likely that the drum is original if we assume that it was built using a left over stock badge? Do you know when thoeretically the brass badge was no longer supposed to be in use?
