Hello, my name is Isaac Carpenter. I have posted on this site once before and forgot my info and had to sign up again. Now I am IsaacHeath. Anyways, my dad and I are in the process of learning more about our collection. Thats where all you come in. This is one of my personal favorites, a Rogers 8 inch snare. Thank you.

? 8" X 14"
? "Wood Shell" that appears to be maple,
? Big-"R" CBS badge
? 10 Lug
? Swiv-o-matic Perma-Tension elongated clockface strainer
? Chrome covered metal hoops (that do not appear to be brass but I don't know).
? serial number D 115895
Can anyone tell me anymore about this drum?
Things like:

model name
shell material (Gotta be Maple but????)
stamped rim material
year it was made
maybe even who may have played this model...
also does this model show in any of the Rogers catalogs

Thank you all for your time.

Isaac

1980-83 or thereabouts. I Think ......the black felts were 83. I have two 6.5x14 Dynasonics with black felts. Both are 83 drums. Ive seen a few green felt drums as well. And that is a super ten maple 8"

Thank you Ploughman! There is a Dyna-Sonic with black felts when you view the Rogers snare drums (listed as 1970) on this web site, so we were a little confused. Thanks for clearing up the vintage and the model number for us. I believe you are accurate. It is great snare drum. We really like it. Thanks again!

Well, it is not what most call "the glory years" of Rogers drums but at least it is still the USA era. Thank you for your knowledge Mr. Ploughman. You have one of these, as well as two 6.5er's right?

The 8" pictured in snare drums is most definitely not from 1970. I am not sure, but I think these began to be produced about 1980 or so. Mine is ........ well, I dont know, as the person I purchased it from, relacquered the shell, a nice job, but unfortunate in that he did not use the felts when it was reassembled. One of the few BIN purchases I made on Ebay, that in retrospect I was not happy with. Also, the snare frame was cracked. Straight, level, functional, but cracked, and the snare wires were unoriginal, and not Dynasonic. The drum sounded like crap. Last year, I acquired a wrecked Dayton 6.5x14 COB Dynasonic that was complete with good hardware. I now have that snare frame on this drum. Ive used one of my other Dynasonic frames on the drum before, and was very pleased with its tone and sound. I knew there was a good sounding snare there, its the only reason I didnt sell it off.
As for glory years, I do own two mid sixties Rogers sets, two mid 70s Big R kits, and one 1980 18-12-14 XP8 set assembled from orphans, recovered in green glass glitter and dressed in Cleveland mounts. The XP8 USA Drums were excellent drums, but, Rogers as a viable company was already on the skids by the time they were being produced. It is really a shame that they did not succeed. They were/ are, excellent drums.
