The server has been experiencing down time from a DOS attack! This happens every once in awhile, because this site is hosted with other sites and when the DOS attacks happen they overload the mail server. It was about 6 email per second for hours!!!

It was a mess yesterday and the site was down a good part of it. This is a shared server so it hosts other web sites and one of them had a huge attack. It brought the server down!

These spammers are a true epedemic to the Internet.

Close, but not exactly. The attack was against the ssh service, on the server, not one of the other sites. It was 4-6 attempts per second constantly over 2 days. Which just eventually caused an error and crash.

I had been avoiding it but now we have an intrusion detection and reaction system installed. Any future attacks will be blocked.
