Thought I might put up a shot that I grabbed after sound check at the gig last night. These are my 1965 Rogers Buddy Rich Celebrity's, and in WMP of course! I have been gigging these for close to 10 years now, and they never disappoint! Here are the particulars:

14X24 (NOS front head w/original Rogers logo)
9X13
14X14 (personal choice on the use of this size, although I do have the 2nd 16X16 too)
16X16
5X14 wood Dynasonic
All correct hardware including the Swiv-O-Matic BD pedal

These drums were re-wrapped in "Antique WMP" as the original WMP was in pretty rough condition after all those years. The "Antique WMP" is a very close match to OEM Rogers WMP with regard to chip/pattern size, so the drums look quite natural/correct despite the re-wrap! Sound is a given... they're Rogers! :-D

First, THANKS to ALL of you for the very nice comments! Glad you like 'em!!

Vibes!...

Interestingly.. ( and you may already know this ) .. most ALL the wrap available for drums is manufactured by one company, Delmar Products.. and they sell to most all the major drum manufacturing companies as well as the companies/guys that do drum restoration, building, material supply, etc. That said, this particular WMP, which is in reality called "Antique White Pearl", was purchased through Precision Drum Co., Inc/New York. Here's the link to their site, and specifically, the wrap catalog: http://www.precisiondrum.com/html/wrap.html Their sample shows this wrap looking much more beige/yellow, but in reality, it looks exactly the way my drums look in the pic. It is real close to OEM Rogers WMP that has gently aged, and of course with ZERO risk for opening seams... shrinking... discoloration/fade. Hope this was of help!

Here's another pic with a slightly different view.

THANKS for sharing!

Many years ago I had an old Slingerland Radio King kit re-wrapped in Precision Drum's Antique White Pearl and was extremely happy with the results.

Some additional commentary might be in order here.. because .. of ALL the GREAT comments from our fine membership on the VDF! Without further ado...

I want to mention again that I have been actively gigging with these drums for over 10 years now, and, they were indeed originally WMP. Nothing has been altered as the set started life as a 1965 Rogers Buddy Rich Celebrity model.. however! .. most BR Celebrity's came with a 14X22 bass drum as opposed to Buddy's standard 14X24, and this set was no exception. You can see this same set in my avatar pic above.. ( from more than a few years back ) .. with the 14X22, which again is how it came. So... for a while now I've had my eye out for a PROPER ERA Rogers 14X24 bass drum as that is the size I prefer to play, and it's also the size Buddy played. I finally located one!.. ( it took years to find ) .. and that is the drum you see here. Perfect timing too as these drums were first re-wrapped years ago by my good friend Jack Lawton, but that was BEFORE the manufacturer of these wraps.. ( Delmar Products ) .. got a bead on the shrinking.. splitting.. fading problems of WMP, and also before the "Antique White Pearl" was even available. Unfortunately, Jack's superb re-wrap suffered the same fate ALL WMP wrap's suffered... it shrunk, split, seams opened, etc. I took them off the front line last year to await ANOTHER re-wrap, and because I had finally found that proper era elusive 14X24. At the great risk of being long winded.. ahem .. the results are what you see here. Beauty is.. ( outside of the fact that these wont shrink, split, fade, etc. ) .. is that they play/sound GREAT!! I have always gotten compliments on these drums at just about every venue I've played, and ALWAYS from the sound engineers that mix for the house. They are always blown away. Course this is the stuff that we ALL know what with being the vintage drum FREAKS we all are, regardless of personal drum brand allegiance!

It would appear that MANY of you guy's have installed this particular wrap on your drums.. BHarrington.. OldSchool/Gary.. fishwaltz.. so you know first hand how nice and period correct this wrap is for WMP. Cool!

I "think" this performance may have been taped, and if that is in fact the case, I will see if I can get a video up on YouTube so this set can be heard as well. I will look into it!

THANKS again for ALL of your nice comments! :-D

Tommyp! What can I say? They are absolutely beautiful...as are all your drums! Next, thanks so much for keeping me awake at work! I'm helping out by doing some data entry. It's incredibly boring and I was falling asleep. Started daydreaming about drums and headed over to VDF where I spotted your kit. Woke me right up!!

I guess the only sad part is that I'm reminded of my Rogers kit I sold. I obtained it as Londoner, wrapped in original Pink Strata. The wrap was very bad, split and cracked all over, and I had the shells stripped down to the bare maple and were wrap ready. I also left out the 9x13, covered up the original tom bracket hole (properly of course!) and installed the proper bracket to make the kit a Headliner. I could never decide on what color to wrap and eventually sold the kit. I'm pretty sure I posted it here some time ago. In looking at your beautiful kit, I should have wrapped mine in antique WMP. It would have been a gorgeous kit! I always loved seeing the Headliner in the Rogers catalog in WMP with the COB Powertone!

Thanks for letting me vent my sad tale...and keep up the great work, Tommyp!!

idrumforfun!... ( Hey Mark! ) ...

I certainly DO remember your Rogers "BR Headliner" set! They were indeed beauties, especially after the work you put in on them. Hopefully this might make you feel a tad better: Antique White Pearl DIDN'T exisit when you re-did your drums! You would have had to wrap them in the then available WMP and suffered the same fate as most ALL the sets that were wrapped with it back then... shrinking... seam seperation... cracking... SIGH. No longer the case today fortunately. I want to mention again that my Celebrity's were originally WMP, so I had zero problem with doing a rewrap.. course this is the 2nd time around as the 1st rewrap suffered it's typical fate. You know, I have an ORIGINAL 1966 Rogers Buddy Rich Headliner in WMP that is available. I am just the 2nd owner and have had them for a while now. Interesting story behind those too. I gigged them for years until I found the Buddy Rich Celebrity set that you see here, and I have been gigging these for almost 8 years now! Let me know should you have any interest. THANKS for checking in and for the nice words!

Again THANK YOU to all the members that have enjoyed these drums and stopped by to comment. It is greatly appreciated!

Thanks Tommy, I was trying to decide on Precisions WMP vs thier Antique white pearl for a snare to match my WMP Londoner. I believe the chip pattern is the same on either?

Tommyp

Bobby Cee!...

The "Antique WMP" is just about dead on to Rogers OEM WMP of old. The chip pattern and coloring is near perfect. As to whether or not the two of those you're considering have the same chip pattern, I'm not sure. BEST thing to do though is this: Have Precision send you a sample piece of each.. ( which they will do ! ) .. and make your determination based on that! It's really the only way to actually see the wrap. I'll attach a shot I grabbed from a recent gig. It's a nice pic in that you can really SEE the coloring/pattern of the "Antique" WMP on the '65 BR Celebrity's.
