I bought these from my DFO buddy PurdieShuffle last week.
I've been waiting for some parts for the snare.
The Abalone pearl is a re-wrap by Jack Lawton.

Dang! That is a seriously cool wrap. Very unusual. I like that it doesn't have that repetitive pattern that most of the new wraps suffer from. It's all swirly. It kind of reminds me of that Van Gogh wrap on that 60s MIJ kit. Really neato.

Kevin:
I like "different" and this kit is definitely that!
I love the looks of that wrap. I wanted to pull the trigger when I saw it offered. However, if I brought another kit into this house right now I just might be the one being "wrapped" and removed if you know what I mean!Hurting
Thanks for sharing the pics. It's a beauty!Yes Sir

Thanks all !!
They sound great, I took them for a couple of trips around the block yesterday and today.
The Jazz Fest sounds especially sweet.... it's a bit older... prolly 70 or so.

Man, I'm just seeing this thread! Thanks for all the very kind words. That kit is a 6-ply maple lay-up that absolutely kills. The tone from these drums is warm and deeply resonant. The entire time I owned it, it was my practice kit. Always set up and any time I felt the itch, it was my go-to kit. It stings a little to be reminded that they are gonzo now.
This kit couldn't have gone to better home, or to a nicer guy...
Enjoy them for many years to come, Kev.
John
PS - This is a long ago discontinued wrap called; Abalone. Although it's in kinda rough, crinkly shape, I have four sheets of this wrap that were given to me several months ago by my buddy, Joeyboom. If anybody wants to recover a kit with it. There's enough salvageable wrap to do an entire kit. It's thin stuff so it will go on easier than the heavier, denser wraps. PM me if anyone is interested. Like I said, the very edges of the sheets are kinda rough/crinkly and probably need to be trimmed off/cut away. I have the last four sheets of this stuff - that I know of. First come... first served.

Yeah - nice looking kit! Not a huge fan of re-wraps, but if you're gonna do it, that's the way to go. Very unique. Also like the natural hoops - did that on a sky blue pearl kit of mine, and it looks cool with black reso head with reverse script logo.
