What is this Gretsch?

Hi I am an Italian drummer
they are in negotiation for this Gretsch snare, but I don't recognize it
can you help me?

the Snare is 5.5 x 14
the natural inside finish
it has 6 broadcasters lugs
renown strainer and standard butt
duble flanged hoops
3 ply

it is under perfect conditions

from what I have understood it is a 1950's snare it resembles a lot to the Gretsch 1950's Economy "dixieland" that there is in the site
according to you it is the same model??
do you have other ideas?

which can its value be?

Your close on some of the information. The Broadkaster lug is different then the lugs on this snare. They were a little more square and had a notch cut out of them.

the only difference with the photo of the catalog is that the "my" snare is to 3 Ply while that of the photo is to 6 Ply!

Hi,

Nice example of the basic 6 lug economy model Gretsch snare drum. 8 lug 50s era 3 ply snares bring a lot of money; probably in the range of $450-$650 for a nice black diamond pearl. The 6 lug drums do not demand prices this high. My sense is that this is a $250 drum, maybe $300 tops.

Yes, the true Broadkaster name (sometimes called the Rocket Lug) was for the lug that attaches to shell in two spots like the drum in the earlier post.

They did for a time refer to the other lug as Broadkaster. Technically you can say they are both Broadkaster lugs but the one above is the original Broadcaster lug.

The 60's catalog calls them Tension Rod Casings and does not call them Broadkaster Lugs. They also call them Streamline Casings in other spots.

Many of the drums in the 54 catalog are called Broadkaster drums and they list the lugs as Stream-Lined Casings

I guess it is really up to the person on what they call the lug and the web site is constantly changing and some of the pages have been up for awhile without being updated. I went ahead and updated the page
