I have a five piece Slingerland set with 900,000 Badge numbers. Is there any place I can find info on the drums. There are Black Gloss finish with power toms. The hardware on these drums are outstanding. The snare looks like a replica of the radio king with made in Tawain stamped on inside the sheel. These drums sound great and would just like more info on them.

Visit the home page of this forum. The link is at the bottom
Vintage Drum Guide (http://www.vintagesnaredrums.com/)
Then look for the blue section from DrCJW.
I point you to the home page so you can see the variety of resources the main web site has to offer.
I hope it helps others also.

I probably came to the wrong site as these drums I bought in the early 90's which is not a vintage set, but I have not been able to find any info anywhere.
Thanks,

If you follow the link and read the info you will see a special forum section for Slingerland under the contact section of the Dr's web site
Go to that forum section and ask the question there.
The Dr will answer your question in time, since he is the authority on Slingerland from all era's.
Your answers will be found, it just takes a little time and due diligence on your end to find the correct spot.
Also, ask the exact questions you want an answer to and be specific.
Provide him pictures as well.
Thanks
David

Right, Slingerland drums with serial numbers over 900,000 date to either 1990 - 1994 during the HSS period of Gretsch ownership, or to 1995 - present in the Gibson ownership period. We can pin down the exact year, model, history etc with, as David suggests, some good pictures.

O.K., so you have a Spirit kit from about 1994. It was made in Taiwan during the HSS Slingerland period, while under Gretsch ownership. If by chance any of the heads are original and they are Evans then the kit is from the Spirit Plus series, with the only real difference being that the Spirit had imported heads.
Earlier on in the HSS period the shell construction of both Spirit series was 5-ply mahogany (Asian ?white mahogany?). During the latter part of 1993 and through 1994 the shell construction went to 7-ply mahogany, with the inner ply being Canadian maple. You could very well have a mix of the two shell types, with some of your drums possibly made earlier, but your kit was likely boxed and shipped in the 1994 time frame.
The Spirits were the economy import line marketed by HSS, companion to its middle line Artists and upper line domestic Lites. Most of the hardware fixtures of the Spirit line were the same as used on the Artists. Notable differences between the two lines included the shell composition, and the metal bass drum hoops on the Spirits.
Gibson continued to sell off Spirit stock that it acquired in the purchase of HSS in 1994, so it is also possible your kit was an early Gibson Slingerland sell.
Here is a picture of your kit from the Slingerland HSS archives.
