Okay all you Slingerland experts, time to flex all that knowledge. I have a Radio Kind Snare circa 1951 that came with other drums. The bass drum has the black and gold emblem with the S that curves back into itself. The snare has the post Cloud badge emblem (oval) and the tom has no badge at all. The drums were all the same color, faded green which has since been removed. The tom has 2 inch rerings, but the bass is mahogany with maple rerings. Am I correct in assuming that the tom and snare are pretty close to the same age, with the bass drum being older by approx. 5-8 years? This set was bought by me all complete, but kind of curious about the bass drum. BTW, the tom does have Radio King stick chopper rims as does the snare. Any help would be appreciated.

backbeatkeeper:
Well, the black and brass Chicago badge with the S-loop would point the bass drum toward 1956 - 1958. The stickchopper hoops, if original, would point the snare drum and tom to no later than very early 1955. The 2-inch reinforcing rings on the tom would point it to no later than 1955.
As for providing more definitive information more on the drums there are too many feature variables to pin down from the information bits in your description - too many unknowns. Good pictures inside and out would allow for the most effective answers, but in lieu of that here are some questions.
Snare drum - are the lugs streamlines or the later "1955" ("modern") lugs? Is the oval badge all brass, and is it the 1948 - 1950 badge (larger), the 1950 - 1953 smaller oval badge or the 1953 - 1955 stamped brass badge?

Tom - streamline lugs, beavertails (small or large?), or "1955" tom lugs (small or large)?

Here's picture of all the drums. I know the tom was pre 1955, because it did have the overlap of wrap tucked in between the plys. The wrap was beyond repair, so I had to carefully remove all of it.

Right, so the snare drum dates to somewhere during later 1950 to earlier 1953, and the tom with that interior construction and the large beavertail lugs would not be inconsistent with the same period. So given its association with the snare drum, good chance it is also 1950 - 1953. The bass drum with S-loop black and brass Chicago badge, the September 22 date stamp and that finish stamping P-040 would point to September 22 of 1958. And the spread in years would indicate that the bass drum was grouped with the other two drums post factory.

Thnaks Dr. for all of your help. I just found a floor tom to put with this set and am looking forward to restoring it to it's old glory.
