The pics I've attached are from a Ludwig bass drum with the B/O "pointy" badge. I've been told that the shell on this particular drum is a 3-ply. Can one of you "ply guys" out there confirm this?
I apologize but every time I hear the word "ply" my mind goes into some sort of brain freeze. No clue why!:(
Perhaps it's the "age thing" kicking in again!Hurting
Thanks!Bowing

Yes they are...and nice, clean shells to boot.

Yep, that's a three-ply shell.
The reinforcing rings are a big hint. Thicker 5+ ply shells typically don't have them.

Thanks to you both for your time and for the information you provided.
I've also got two Ludwig shells ("pointy" B/O badges - no serial numbers) that have reinforcement rings and granitone paint on the interior shells.
Is it "safe" (sounds like a line from an old movieLaughing H) to assume that these would also be 3-ply shells?

If they have reinforcement rings, they are 3-ply. No re-rings could be 6-ply or 4-ply depending on the badging and era...mid 1970's onward basically are no re-rings.
