Do Ludwig large classic lugs fit onto any other brands of drums?
I'm looking for a bass drum to match my snare, floor, and rack toms(BDP, WFL mid-late 50s). I have all the hardware, but have had a hard time finding exactly what I want but have seen a lot of Slingerland and Rodgers stuff I wouldn't mind using, if the hardware fits.
I was surprised at the lack of info about this...maybe I'm not using the right key words.

Ludwig lugs will not fit any Rogers or Slingerland shells the hole spacing is to far apart you would have to redrill on hole.Mikey

Your comment brings an idea to mind.
It sure would be great to have a chart of lugs by brand with their model names, catalog numbers, and specs available.
All that info is in different books, on our own Drum Guide, and other sources, but to get it all compiled in one place would be a very helpful resource.
There are a couple or three industrious researchers that post here, perhaps one of them will pick up the challenge?
As long as the sources are cited and referenced there shouldn't be a problem with using the available outside sources and posting them on this website?
For instance, on page 198 of Rob Cook's Ludwig book, there are twelve illustrations from the 1976 Ludwig catalog of lugs with specs for each one.
Something like that for each of the major companies might be very useful, and an easy answer for those who pose the question as you did, (and that question is posed pretty often) ... they could simply be directed to the chart on this website.

some of this has already been done. the ludwig standard lugs fit rogers beavertail holes. there are some kent lugs that fit. anyway, i agree with you. someone needs to grab all this and put it in one spot. great idea kev!

Yep, I think it's all been covered in various threads, even one type of Ludwig lugs fitting Rogers shells?

I believe that the Broadkaster style Gretsch lugs (not the Rocket style) also interchange with Ludwig Classic lugs.

I agree that this info would be HIGHLY useful to those interested in building custom vintage drums, e.g. me and probably lots of you...that's why I brought it up here. This seems like the most likely place for that type of thing to actually happen.
Thanks for all the info, but on my budget, I'm not sure that I'm willing to roll the dice on buying a shell and finding out that my hardware won't fit. I personally am opposed to drilling any holes in a drum that is over 50 years old just for aesthetic reasons. I'll have to do more research before feeling 100% confident about this.

Maybe buy a Ludwig bass drum shell and wrap it.... won't match, but neither
will some other brand of shell ?

I found vintage Leedy Art Deco BD lugs will fit a Trixon BD if you bore the holes out ever so SLIGHTLY.

I had a egg shaped BD years ago,and did that to complete.


BTW......I think the drum companies made the hole spacing different so that you wouldn't put Rogers lugs on a Ludwig,then call it a Rogers etc etc.
