I love our guitar player!

Last week, I got a call from our guitar playerGuitar Dude Man who's wife is an antiques dealer. He says "I'm at an estate sale,and there is a Ludwig snare here I can get for $15, but there are some dents in it." I said fine, get it. I can use the parts if nothing else. So he shows up at the gig yesterday with the drum and it is a pre-serial # COB 5x14 Supra! And it wasn't $15, but $10! Sure there are a few small dents in it, but it will be a great players drum, and that is what I am. A player more than a collector. It needs a little TLC and then it is going to the bandstand. Awesome. I traded an unwanted guitar pedal for my one of my most loved snares, a beat up 70's supra. Sometimes the ones that fall into your lap play the best!

Wow, great, I'm still waiting for one of those deals.
I usually get the, "I was at an antique store in kansas last month and saw this gold colored snare drum with etching on the sides, it looked fadded and almost brownish, and I thought about getting it for you but was in a hurry, it was 12 bucks, would you have wanted it?"

So congrats on having one of the more thoughtful guitar players out there!

The last one he found was a Ludwig pioneer, red sparkle, 1965, in NOS condition for a hundred bucks. He's a keeper. Plays well too.

A little update on this drum:
First off, it looked like it had been thrown out of a car at about 50 MPH.
Today I took it all apart and hammered a little on the worst of the dents. The area under the throw was punched in about 1/4"! The badge was all bent cockeyed and there were stickers on the shell. I polished and lubed and straightened things out, put some fresher heads on it and tuned it up. This drum sounds great! I have a lot of high quality snares and this one is right up there with the rest of the best! $10. Wow!Cool1

I have a story to tell similiar to yours.......back in the mid-1980's I was in an antique store with my folks when out of the corner of my eye I spotted a pair of small cymbals. Upon closer inspection, turns out they were K Zildjian cymbals, with the CONSTANTINOPLE stamp on them! $35 later and they were mine! I think they may have been marching cymbals as they were very HEAVY. Only 14" in diameter though...I used them as hi-hat cymbals for quite a while. Sold them a few years back for quite a tidy profit. Never really cared for the sound of them, but heck! $35! For CONSTANTINOPLE stamped K's!!!

I've had a K Constantinople since 1984 that I bought for $15.

A friend had this cymbal as his main ride and couldn't stand the sound of it (for rock). I was looking for a large crash. Needless to say, we were both 22-year-old dumb****s.

It took me a few years to realize what I had and I no longer use it as a crash. I don't feel that guilty because he cracked my exquisite 16" crash while we were in high school.
