Funny spot on bearing edge

I've got this Slingy bass drum shell that I want to use, but there is a funny little buldge in the bearing edge. It looks like it may have been clamped to fix a seperation sometime before I got it, the inside of the re-ring is flat in that spot and has what looks like teeth marks from a c-clamp. I have no problems seating a head on the shell, but I'm worried that it might effect the sound and tuning. Anyone have any ideas on how I can squeeze this buldge back into round?

As long as the top and outer edges, where the head and collar actually come into contact with the edge are smooth, you should have nothing to worry about. Remember, this is an early shell that was made with salf inmind and "perfectly round" was not so much a constant as an after thought.
If the head fits, wear it!

Thanks jonni, I didn't really think it would be a big deal, but I'm getting ready to do a veneer job on this and didn't want to waste half of my veneer on a BD that wasnt worth using. The edge is very smooth and the contour is nice actually. I think I'll put some lugs on that side and make sure the head is a good fit with tension before I start on my covering job.

Thanks, I'll be documenting the whole project. I'm still in the collecting parts phase at the moment, just need a snare in a re-wrap condition, but I have the veneer and ready to get started on the shells I do have.

Just my tuppence of....

Some may say that tuning isn´t as important on a bassdrum as on any other drum, and they may be right.

But - from what I see on the pictures, or what I see from the pictures - this drum is seriously out of round.

If it is, and the drum was mine, I would try hard to bring it back to round. Apply some moisture, steam or whatever, and put pressure on it to get rid of that kink.

To me, it seems there is very little to lose in trying....
