I picked this up from a Garage Sale in Australia, clearly have not started the restoration yet but can anyone advise on what it may be. The previous owner had no historical info, it is very heavy and solid. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I saw one of these recently but forget where. If you are so inclined on the main site:vintagesnaredrums.com it has a list of drums and that snare might be there. Just out of curiousity how much did you pay for it?

Hey just a follow up I believe it is an Autocrat.

I found one with the same lugs on ebay

and also if you go on the main sight and click on autocrat and then click on other snare pictures there is one with a similair strainers.
Also where in Australia are you located? I was born in Melbourne myself.

Thanks Harrison,

I am from Adelaide, always good to talk to an Aussie. I picked it up with an old post WW2 Drouyn kit (Brisbane manufactured) for loose change, he basically gave it to me. I couldn't believe my luck. The snare has no badging or obvious markings that would suggest it was part of this kit, so thought I would put it out there. There is very little information about Drouyn also. I will follow your leads and see where it takes me...

Thanks mate...

Very nice. You should post some pictures of the Drouyn kit. I have in fact never heard of them before. Good luck in finding out some more info.

Ok A follow up to my other follow up. Found a autocrat snare exactly the same as yours 'cept its wood.

It has the same throwoff and lugs. Also the badge it wields points to the 60's which is what you thought it was from. So I guess its an autocrat. Nice snare be sure to post pictures of it after you finish it up. Also in case you are in need of some lugs I found this guy is selling 8 of them at a hefty $9 a lug but better than nothing.
