When Pearl was first making drums, was the middle re-ring used a lot on the bass drum? Also, has anyone ever seen a Pearl kit with re-rings on all the drums and not have badges?
I looked at a kit this weekend that was definitely Pearl hardware, but no badges nor signs of badges, and all original...

BBK-both Pearl and Star used 3 rings on the 3 ply shells. And my WMP, although not "Pearl", is a Pearl stencil and has rings on all three drums. Again, very resonant. The easier way to date them is this, as best we have gleaned. First, the shells themselcves. If the real thin, 3 ply/re-rings, they are pre-67. Both seemed to have switched at this time. Second will be the rail or pipe or someother type of tom mounts. Star used a couple of different tom mout set-ups, and Pearl, it seems, was much more experimental where they were concerned, so we see all kinds of Pearl mounts, pipe, solid hexagonal, rail, etc. The pipe mounts usually indicate later builds. The hex is from 71 on, I think, but O'bop will straighten that out.

The tom had an "L" arm and reciever, but the bass drum all it had was what looked like an old Slingerland cymbal holder that held the bass drum...still looking for a picture...

Just a question or two.On the tom is the reciever like say a ludwig type?? and the "L" arm like a ludwig type? If so the tom mount on the bass drum should be a rail mount mounted with 4 screws again like Ludwig type..if this is all true this would date the set in 1968-69..Mikey

If it is only an "L" arm mount, the set may be from early on, say very early 60s. I saw an old Pearl with this set up. It is here somewhere, in red spark, 50s kit.
