Hey guys I'm new around here but I've been reading some threads the last couple days. I'm going to look at a camco drumset later today (at least the guys says it's a camco) and I was wondering if there's anything I should look for or look out for?

Thanks in advance

John

Other than the difference after Camco was bought and the change in the drums, if you know your history and have a lot of cash, Camcos are a great collectible and a great addition to any collection. Parts are scarce and expensive. Badges in order of where they were made-Oaklawn, Chanute, then L.A., obviously they earlier the badge, the more expensive.

Thanks for the info :) they're listing is for:

13x9 Rack tom
16x16 Floor tom
22x16 bass drum

and a 14x5 10 lug snare that's not camco

it also comes with a double braced pearl straight stand and throne and an iron cobra single pedal that's missing a beater, spring, and the screw that holds the chain

He's asking 175

so I guess really what I want to know is, is there anything i should really watch out for? any fake look-alikes that are cheap trash?

I wouldn't say "fake look-a-alikes", but TAMA owned the name in the 80s, so the sould be a TAMA kit, and it will state Camco by TAMA I believe. If the badges say Oaklawn, you will be scoring so big, people will hate you....Try to get some pix, and let us see what you get to look at. At any rate, if they are in good condition, any drums area deal at 175. Is that 175 USD or GBP?

The Tama Camcos have a square piece attached to the round lug. Real Camcos have perfectly round lugs.

Check every lug for stress lines, cracks & splits. The round lug was very prone to multiple cracking where it receives the tension rod, especially on drums that are cranked (snares).. Also carefully inspect the throw off for cracks & poor function. TD
