View Full Version : Bounce Cymbals?

In the old Zildjian ads that the Webmaster posted in the Memorobilia Galley section, it says that some of the drummers used "bounce" cymbals. Is this what they used to call ride cymbals? Just curious.

Zildjian used a bunch of different names back in the day. I've seen Bounce, Bop, and Dance all stamped on the surface of cymbals.
One cymbal I own has BOP stamped on it. Its a light 18" cymbal that weighs about 1150grams. This is light in my mind for a ride so I would say this was more of a crash. However, back in the early 1950s when this cymbal was made most cymbals were thinner than todays standards. So this 1150gram cymbal may have been a ride of the day.

What type of scale do you use to get metric weight on a cymbal?

A metric scale, I'm guessing.

I have a My Weight 6000 or 6500 scale. It does either ounces or grams.
I got it from http://www.oldwillknottscales.com/
It was about $60. The company was great to deal with.
you can also use a regular scale and convert the ounces to grams.
I have searched and used to have a link to a conversion calculator but I can't seem to find the link.
