Old Ludwig Snare. Year? Model? Rechrome?

Hi, I'd like to start by saying I'm a guitarist and know very little about drums.

This past weekend I bought my 3 year old daughter a cheap used Yamaha drum set from a 17 year old kid. It came with bass, 12, 13, 16, high hat, crash, ride, and an old Ludwig snare. The drummer in my band took notice of the snare drum right away, and said it sounded great. I did some research on it and I think it's a 402 Supraphonic. It's 14 x 6 1/2 10 lug. All parts are in tact and all look original. ludwig script on throw off and ends of snares, Keystone badge# 9242, baseball bat muffel red felt. Chrome is peeling off alloy shell in some places very badly. The drum looks like it's never beed cleaned.

Questions: What year is the drum? How much would it bring on ebay (not looking to sell)? Would a rechrome job hurt the value or tone?

1960s...$150.00 because of the condition...don't waste your money re-chroming this drum as it will cost you more than the drum is worth....my suggestion is to clean it up, put your favorite head combination and snare wires on and wack away as it will probably sound pretty good.

I just checked the pictures and the drum looks like it will clean up really nice. Mike can attest to a little elbow grease and time.

This drum will probably shine like new.

Hi...the 6.5" version (402) with a keystone badge is actually a pretty desireable drum. (The 5" supras are great, too, but the deeper models are much harder to find.) My guess is that cleaned up, with average pitting, the drum would bring over $300 on ebay. Don't waste time or $ re-plating...
