Did Slingerland use Lacquer or Polyurethane?

Does anyone know if Slingerland used Lacquer, Polyurethane or Varnish for their Maple interiors on their 3-Ply Shells during the 70's? Was the lacquer or polyurethane or varnish sprayed or brushed on? How many coats? I am asking for details due to the fact that I am wondering what I should use on the interior of my 70's 3-ply Slingerland Snare drum, I have stripped the interior and I need to reseal, but I am not sure what to use. I do not want the drum to ring like crazy, I just need to protect the interior wood surface. Any info would be great. Thank you. Phil Cormier Fitchburg, Mass 01420

Nitrocellulose lacquer was the finish du jour. Polyurethane as a decorative lacquer did not yet exist, and polyester was used only on imported instruments, as it is more economical. Ironically, this is what is employed on high-end drums now in the USA.
