A vintage Ludwig Supraphonic or a vintage Ludwig Acrolite. These are both very versatile drums for any style, in my opinion and experience with them.

i agree that both those ludwig drums are great and versatile. I would also look into some wood drums from the 50's/60's(gretsch, slingerland, ludwig,etc) a lot of the jazz guys used wood snares, and that might be part of the sound you are looking for.
