I have a couple of Vintage luddy kits. The hardware all sux! lol. One of my kits has nuts on the tom holders instead of wing nuts. The reason is, you cant tighten a wing nut tight enough with your fingers. A ratchet gives enough leverage to tighten the tom brackets. I was going to change them, but im going to leave them alone. I went to take pics and just noticed my Vistalite floor tom has a sonor tear drop rim on it.

Ludwig supplied the wing nuts on floor tom leg brackets, 60's folding spurs, shell mount cymbal holders, on the lower tiers of lighter weight stands, and on lighter weight snare stand basket tilters. You're right about mounted tom brackets. They need hex nuts.

Either is much better than the wing bolts that can strip the threads in the softer brackets used in the early 60's.
