If you have a vintage drum set & one of the shells are out of round & has to be shaved in order to fit the head on to be functional, does this eliminate the drums from being in a vintage category.

Heck no! If I had an original Picasso and the paint was faded and needed to be restored and had a highly known and respected restorer do the job...the painting is still an original Picasso. In some collectors minds, the restoration may diminish it's value a teensy weensy bit, but they would still pay top dollar.

Further thought...if a shell is out of round, is the only way to fix it shaving it?
just a thought....
I thought about steam heating the shell and wrapping the outside of the shell with some nylon tie-down ratcheting straps. just a concept....

Depending on the glue, steam heating it could cause it to delaminate. Did they use hide glue for shells?
