On a different thread I decided to pose a new general topic-
Out of all the drums you've owned or played, which ones do you wish you'd never sold,or HAD bought,or made the "all the money"offer.
In and around '83,I was living in Florida and gigging ALOT-a regular 2/3 night weekend band and days with my then brother-in law doing mall gigs-fashion show, talent contest, etc.During this period we hooked up a dance band gig at the New Port Richie,FL.senior center.Sunday afternoons 4-7pm.Usually I'd have to RUN to my regular Sunday night weekend gig,so the man who ran the senior center suggested I use their house set, donated by a resident.
It turned out to be a Club Date 12-14-20 with a wood snare and nickel hardware, and was the best sounding set I had,or have EVER played.Grey Marine pearl, mahogany with rerings. We'd play dance tunes from the 40's and up,and it was like I was channelling the previous owner-one hundred seniors dancing the hully-gully or dancing the fox-trot to Boo Hoo by Guy Lombardo. It was an amazing time warp experience that I'll never forget.

Ouch! I'm still in search of my FIRST jazzette!

I regret selling a mint condition '67 Jazz Festival. I didn't like the sound of it, so I sold it, but it was in such good condition, part of me wishes I would have "time-capsuled" it and sold it in 30 years or so. That's how I am with most drums...I like to play 'em. If they don't find their way into the rotation once in a while, then off they go...

I did pass on a Gretsch round badge for $600 once. Early 50's, 3-ply shells, decent condition. Sounded great, but I was looking for a more modern sound out of vintage drums. How naive I was. I've been looking, half-heartedly, for a 3-ply Gretsch kit ever since. I don't need a great-sounding vintage kit since I've got a couple gems now, but if I come across one for the right price, I'm jumping on it...

I guess for me it would be the 1940-something WFL snare and Tama Fibrestar snare I GAVE to my nephew. I did this before I was into vintage drums and had no clue what they *might* be worth some day. I was playing more guitar back then and wasn't gigging on drums anymore so I gave them away as a B-Day present to my nephew.

He still has them and understands that if he ever needed to sell them, I would be the first and only buyer. He doesn't play regularly which is a shame because he's good.

They are still in the family so It's all good, but man... I played some great gigs with that Fibrestar. It was my favorite back then - purchased new and much loved.

Sigh...

I was 16 years old.I was playing a metal trash can using two pencils for drum sticks!!!
My grandmother gave me a snare drum from Sears,of all places!!! It was a wood shell drum...Man, you would have thought that she gave me a million bucks!!!!!My first real drum!!!!
Man do I wish I still had that snare!!!
I also had a four piece Slingerland kit when I was 18 years old.It was Marine Pearl...I played in a band called the Playboys.....Then Uncle Sam called!!!! Went to Viet Nam in the Marines....When I came back I got married....then I had a family.....needed money so I sold the set...Man do I regret that!!!!

No question.... My black and gold duco WFLs from the 50s. Amazing set, and the perfect sound. I loved them, and miss them to this day. These were my first drums.

I go through drums very quickly, so I really don't miss many. There were a couple that I wouldn't mind revisiting. My first was an early early 60's red sparkle Luddy. That one was taken from me. I also wouldn't mind playing on my old Recording Custom. I managed to lay down a few tracks with that one before donating it to the wife for furniture. The other kit that I wouldn't mind playing again is my old Premier kit. It was a twin 24 affair that absolutely rocked. I don't miss them but I wouldn't mind sitting behind them again.

None.

I own three sets, 2 50's RB's and my Frankenstein'd Luderlands. Same with cymbals, I got the right stuff 35 years ago and stopped looking.

The only drums I ever sold were crap - Crown, Stewarts & Tama that I was glad to see go.

Only thing of all of it I regret selling was the SpeedKing my Dad bought me for the Stewarts.

In 1975 I ordered a custom Slingerland kit in natural maple finish.
'Bonham sizes' 26, 14, 16 & 18 with a 6.5" Krupa cob snare. Waited 11
months to get them! In around 1980 I sold them due to peer group
pressure from the band I was in.("They don't look right for the type of music
wer'e playing man" etc) Wish I hadda sold that crappy band instead!DOH

My first kit (A blue sparkle US Mercury) I had added a second kick and another tom. Both '57 Ludwigs in blue sparkle. I traded them all off for other MIJ's to have a bigger set..... DOHDOHDOHDOHDOH

I wish I still had the Wigs....

I had a Premier snare way back when. It was a deep model. It was basically a brass snare with wood on the inside. That was a cool snare that I wouldn't mind having back. I loved the brass tone mixed with that wood inner. Very unique sound quality.

My Dad's kit... he sold them when he left for WWII.. I sure wish he would have just stashed them in the attic at grandma's for me to discover.
